Alumnus Spotlight: Prof. Peter Thomson

Prof. Peter Thomson, featured in the Fall 2009 AEM Update, is an alumnus of both AEM undergraduate and graduate programs.

Thomson grew up in Colombia, South America and travelled to Minnesota for his post-secondary education culminating with his doctorate in 1996. He then returned to Colombia to continue his career in academia.

 

Thomson joined the faculty at Universidad del Valle in Colombia as an Assistant Professor. He moved through the ranks, inevitably becoming the Director of the College of Engineering.

 

Thomson's research applies Structural Health Management research to preserve the buildings and structures in Colombia subject to some of the most severe earthquakes in the world.
